Record Number of Jackets Awarded

We would like to thank everyone who took part in this year’s Blue Jackets. Bright Futures. Program. You truly are helping a student fulfill their dreams of owning their own FFA jacket. Our goal was met this year for the Blue Jackets. Bright Futures. Program! We had 634 students apply this year. That is around the same number that applied last year. Last year we had 259 jackets donated and this year we had 315 jackets donated. Our goal for this year was 275 jackets.

The committee met on September 28th to look at the 634 student applications. In each application they are asked how many years they have been in FFA, highest FFA degree obtained, what FFA means to them, how will the FFA jacket help them make an impact, what they have done or experienced in FFA since becoming a member, and what their FFA future looks like. Their FFA advisor also had to send in a statement for each student of why they think their student should earn an FFA jacket from this program.

Here are a few of the excerpts from the student applications:

How will the FFA jacket help you make an impact?

“The FFA jacket will help me make an impact because when I wear the jacket, of course people will ask questions and then I can have the chance to educate people on FFA.”

“I want kids like me, that don’t live on a farm, to know that they can still be active and learn about agriculture and all it has to offer. Wearing the FFA jacket will show them, that, like me, they can do anything they set their mind to whether they live in the city or the country. Having an FFA jacket will allow me to help make our chapter visible in a school and in a rural community where it’s been missing for over 25 years. Somewhere on those bleachers sits a little boy or a little girl who wants to learn more about FFA as they get older or dreams about wearing the navy blue and corn gold FFA jacket. I was one of those little girls. Now I wear the FFA jacket with pride. I wear the FFA jacket to show people that I am part of an amazing and fun organization and that I want to make a positive difference.”

“The FFA jacket allows its members to represent themselves. The members’ performance, and drive to excel allow them to represent FFA. This exhibits the merit of the organization. The merit of the organization is a testament to its members who deserve to be represented not only by their jackets, but their commitment to excellence.”
